W. Bro. John Fairbairn Prov. Grand Steward

Following the tragic death of John Fairbairn a funeral service is to be held to mark his passing and it will be held at St Pauls Church, Barrow in Furness at 11.30am on Thursday, 10th October, 2013. His pall bearers will be members of Furness Mark Lodge No 36 and Barrow Lodge No 3928.

John was advanced to the Mark degree in February, 2000. In 2009 he was appointed Almoner. It was a role which he preformed with great distinction and in which he was very ably assisted by his wife Marjorie. Both his Craft Lodge and Furness Mark Lodge referred to Marjorie as the Assistant Almoner such was the teamwork of this well respected couple.

In 2010 John was WM of Furness Mark Lodge No 36. He was especially proud that as Master he was able to lay the wreath at the local cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday, it being particularly poignant as his grandfather, when Mayor of the Borough, had been the person who had laid the first wreath at the memorial. John's efforts were rewarded by his appointment as a Provincial Grand Steward in May this year.
